Epic Win: Tex Avery

Submitted by Sara H

Without Tex Avery we’d have none of our favorite cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny, Droopy, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and a host of others. We’d also be years behind in the “do anything” department of animation. The crazy antics, cartoon physics, and quantum anomalies that are abound in cartoons may have never been realized if it weren’t for Tex Avery.

  1. zack says:

Best part of Tex Avery? Red Hot Ridding Hood

  2. Jean Jeannie says:

Don’t forget Musical Maestro with the hair plucked from the screen!!!! Tex Avery is hilarious.

  3. LOLDemon says:

Just to clarify, Avery did not create Porky Pig and numerous other artists had their hands in making Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and other classic cartoons into the characters we know today. None of which is to say that Avery doesn’t deserve tons of credit for his work and his lasting influence on animation. Without his groundbreaking explorations of exaggeration and timing, we probably wouldn’t have cartoons like “Ren and Stimpy,” “Spongebob Squarepants,” “Chowder,” and “This Misadventures of Flapjack.”

  4. Kerghan says:

Man, I loved Tex Avery cartoons when I was a Kid

And he did it all without being on drugs.

  7. wvgirl says:

Always a classic. He had some of the best gags.

  8. Stinkomanfan says:

He must’ve really hated the mother-in-law

  9. JP says:

Tex gave Bugs his now trademark line “What’s Up Doc”.
Red Hot Riding Hood makes Jessica Rabbit look overdressed, no?
He aimed his work more at adults, even after it became the norm for them to be toned down for the kiddies. He just learned to slide those jokes by the censors.

  10. BigAl1976 says:

Tex Avery’s stuff was a riot. My personal favorite had to be from TV of Tomorrow – the one with the built-in garbage disposal. I shudder to think if that worked with more than annoying commercials.

  11. ALEX1982 says:

omg!! in the 1st cartoon house of tomorrow, the “modern pressure cooker” actually exists!! Ever heard of Bimby Thermomix? http://www.ukthermomix.com/
Now this cartoon is from the 40’s/ 50’s right?…..What a visionary Tex was =)

  12. Rottentreats says:

Thank you thank you thank you for posting Tex Avery.

  13. Tex Avery was a frickin’ genius, and without him there wouldn’t have been guys like Bob Clampett, Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera, and don’t even think about forgetting Chuck Jones. Tex Avery was the fountainhead from which sprang the Golden Age of Cartoons.

  14. Lizzle says:

Aww, I used to watch those old cartoons all the time with my Grandpa. Do they still show them?
