Epic Win: Sesame Street: There’s A Bird On Me
Submitted by Kelly V
Sesame Street’s animal segments were epic, and There’s A Bird On Me was no different. It’s a shame that this kind of silliness is stuck in the corners of Web, reserved for those who remember it, and displayed widely for the new generations.

Oh, this was so cute. I loved to count the birds. I was fascinated that different types of animals could hang out together.
Awesome! I still occasionally find this song running through my head. And I love the “12″ song too. Does anyone else remember the octopus blues? That’s another good one.
Sesame St. was great.
However, this can be misleading. The birds aren’t on there for a ride, they could easily fly much farther and faster than that.
Tickbirds perch on animals to feed on the ticks and other parasitic insects which would otherwise endanger the rhino’s/elephant’s/giraffe’s/etc. health.
Yeah, but that would make a horrible song.
I was more partial to the “12″ song. Linky
It’s still on! However, it is not the live-action video along with it anymore, it is an animation. But I was still excited to hear the song when I was watching with my 2 year old the other day! He was not as excited as I was, however…
I do agree with Nick – I love the “12″ song. Also the “ladybug picnic” song. Come to think of it, there are many many Sesame Street songs to love!
the 12 song is even more epic.
I loved that one, and still drop it into a conversation on occasion.
And don’t forget: That’s about the size, where you put your eyes, that’s about the size of it…
And the orange with a rubber-band mouth singing the aria from Carmen.
LOVE IT.
Oh my GOD I loved the singing orange!!
I LOVED that one!
Man, I remember the very first time I saw this- I was working as a jail guard for the ladies’ block, and we were more relaxed than the men- we could only have a max.of 3 inmates at a time, and we would have our meals with them and watch TV- well, this came on, and i got to laughing so hard, and got the inmates laughing too, one of the guards from the men’s block came and told us to keep it down. One of the few good memories I had from there.
OMG! i thought i was the only one who thought this was EPIC….i sing sometimes and people just stare at me blankly….
LOVE IT!
i feel so good knowing i wasn’t the only one who watched sesame street and LOVED these clips^-^ most of the time, i just get a bunch of blank stares when reference anything from pbs lol
I always loved the one of the live action frog swimming around in a pool and the kids imitating it. I get the Da-dee-da dee-dah (“what’s the name of that song?”) song mixed in with that video, even when I was a kid I thought they were the same, and I had a second cousin named Dalidah, so for the longest time before I met her (I heard about her a lot from my mom) I thought she was a frog.
When I have a kid I fully intend to buy the old sesame street. It isn’t the same anymore. It has turned into Elmo’s Hyperactive Kid Show! Last time I looked at kids toys there were dozens of Elmos all over the isle but not one Big Bird!
I think I remember this. My favorite was the “9″ song where all the animals crammed into the elevator. I still catch my self singing it at 22 years old. It makes me laugh lol
