Epic Win: Babar the Elephant

Submitted by Laura M

Babar the Elephant was another Epic Win bedtime story that later became an epic win cartoon as well. Babar was so cultured and smart when dealing with Lord Rataxes, the Rhinoceros.

  2. Stick says:

Uh…so…much..hate…..ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! *smashes computer monitor and keyboard*
So sorry, let me compose myself. I enver liked this as a kid. It pained me to look at it.

  3. Norf says:

YAY! Paddington brought on BABAR! WOOT!

  4. Multi-Facets says:

Babar! I loved Babar as a kid. ^n_n^

  5. Ameri says:

Babar was my fav show when I was little. Not Teletubbies, not Toy Castle, none but Babar. Was a sophisticated kid or what? =P

  6. Loria says:

Joy of Joy’s!!! Still one of my all time fav’s. I loved the part where the elephants painted their butt’s and charged the rhino’s backwards. He He He.

  7. ladykitteh says:

Oh I loved this! Never saw the cartoon, but we had lots of picture books of Babar stories :D My favo(u)rite is still the one where one of them (I think it was the young Babar) tries to learn how to play the piano, but he keeps making mistakes and then puts on a record to fool everyone into thinking he’s really good… until he has to perform for everyone of course :)

    Definitely an EPIC WIN :D

  8. BAW says:

I have read that “Babar” has a lot of hidden political messages about French colonialism/imperialism in Africa.

    • Mad Ness Monster says:

The funny thing about stuff like that. As a kid the satire (I’m being optimistic in assuming the author wasn’t all “Rah rah Imperialism”) doesn’t hit you… but it *is* awkward to see Babar visiting his relatives and he’s wearing a suit and on his hind legs while they’re perfectly normal, non-Anthro elephants. As an adult you look at that and can’t help but see an eerie subtext.

  9. babar!! says:

was totally gonna post this the other day! loved babar as a kid!!

  10. Babar!!!! Epic win!!!!!!

I watched it in Spanish when I was a kid. I didn’t knew that the opening had voices!! In Spanish it was only the music xP

Thanks a lot for taking me back to my chilhood ^^ Now I need to look for that episode about Babar, while he was a kid, and his friends being against the school bullies

  11. Ziek says:

Ohhh… I remember and loved this show.. Along with Rupert which was of a similar calibre. [:
And I remember watching the film, which was partly in french.. And the cartoon with his kids and all that..
I think I taped an episode where they went up in a big balloon and nearly got lost/killed..
    Fun. [:
And the dear old lady was super, too.
… What was that other cartoon with the elephant? Aaagh, I can’t remember.

  12. nitrogamer says:

i used to love this show… it was just so creative.
i should post a tribute on the forums that i know (miniclip club penguin) but everyone there is too old for it, so it would fail :(

  13. pezcore says:

Shockingly enough-THEY STILL FREAKING AIR BABAR!
on NBC on Saturday mornings-I happened on it a few weekends ago & squealed…then found out ABC Family was airing all the 3 of the original ninja turtle movies…that was a good day.

  14. Onasariel says:

Oh! Babar was awesome! Screw any other show, Babar was the one I wouldn’t miss! C:

  15. Miki says:

    Loved Babar!
Me and my brother used to have a story cassette tape, but we wouldnt listen to it cause it was quite a sad story. We were only quite small then, perhaps 2 and 3.

  16. FwaFwa says:

    Oh, wow…I remember the old storybooks. I always cried whenever we got to the bit where the one elephant dies of mushroom poisoning ;_;

  17. Stephanie says:

I used to watch this cartoon in french! And then one day it wasn’t on anymore and they replaced it with Disney Afternoon. (WHICH WAS AWESOME) But my parents and I hunted for Babar for years, my mom would swear it was on at noon on Saturdays and we’d check every TV station every weekend and never did find it :(

  18. icrycry says:

this comes on Qubo every day.

    :p

  19. Aiden says:

Man, I loved this show as a kid. I learnt about diplomacy from this show. They are showing t again on a digital channel. Still just as epic.
