Epic Win: Little Critter Stories

Submitted by Lindsay Y

Little Critter was a fun book for youngsters, since he was always getting into trouble or losing something or messing something up. Our favorite part of the book was the spider and the cricket that used to always follow him around. They were very simple characters, but they were always there watching the hijinks or surveying the damage.

  1. cat says:

i remember the teacher read this to us in kindergarden. good times :D

  2. katie says:

omg these were the best books! my sister and i always made our mom read them to us at bedtime

  3. JayPea says:

And my little sister said, “Me, too! Me, too!”

  4. Erm says:

I loved these. I especially remember one where Little Critter spent the day with this grandparents at an airport, at a store, etc., and wound up tired and falling asleep. I don’t so much remember Little Critter’s behavior, but his grandparents’ reactions and expressions; It was clear that they loved him.

That was definitely me as a kid. And those were definitely my grandparents. These last few years, I’ve returned the favors as they’ve grown old and (in the case of my grandfather) died; For roughly three years now, I’ve lived in their house as one component of at-home care.

Crud. I’m tearing up. Thanks for the reminder of the memories.

aww that’s really nice of you i know many people who wouldn’t think that their grandparents would need them and just put them in a nursing home without even thinking they could help them out as their parents and grandparents had when they were children and take for granted how much their family loves them
      :)

One of my first computer games was a Little Critter Living Book. I loved it. Did anyone else have Living Books? It would make a good post on here if other people had them too…

  6. Zu says:

My favorite was the one with little critter making a friend. My kids are all grown now but we still say “This cookie is MADE OF SAND” when something tastes bad.

  7. ceallaig says:

My favorite is a more recent offering in the series, “A Very Special Critter”, which featured a critter in a wheelchair, and LC finding out that his new classmate is just like everyone else in all the ways that really matter (he even won the costume contest at Halloween by coming as a car!). These are the most wonderful stories — very gentle and often taught a bit of a lesson. LC may not have always done things the right way, but he always did his best and meant well — his parents and grandparents knew that.

  8. haley says:

my favirite and only one i can remember is I was so mad! I love that one the little critter is so cute!

    • Casa says:

      lol me too!
Probably because I was constantly being compared to the Little Critter being mad and Lucy VanPelt when I was a kid.

  9. Great book

Read a great new romantic sports comedy, entitled Classes Apart.
This is an sporting comedy that follows the fortunes of Paul Marriot, the secretary of the Barnstorm Village Sunday soccer team and coach of a school cricket team in Yorkshire, England. The story describes the remarkable camaraderie between the players and supporters of this little club and their desire to achieve success. The team had previously been known more for its antics off the field, rather than their performances on it.

During his time at the club he meets and becomes involved with Emma Potter, who is the sister of James Potter, a major player for their bitter rivals Moortown Inn. Thus, begins an entangled web of romance and conflict. He also begins working at Derry High School, a school with a poor reputation of academic success, where he becomes coach of the school cricket team. Here he develops an amazing relationship with the children and they embark on an epic journey.

  10. Hayley says:

Ahah. I remember these. I had a ton of these when I was younger.

Unfortunately, I also remember the rather short-lived “big critter” spin off comic books of when he got older and started doing ScoobyDoo-esque crime solving. It failed. Epicly.

  11. Karen says:

I love these books, I read them to all three of my children- the youngest is now 14 years old. Good messages, with real feeling and meaning!

  12. RB says:

I was just thinking about this the other day, trying to remember what it was called. I remember a mouse always following him in the books. I didn’t remember him always getting in trouble though.

  13. Mandie says:

I was almost 4 years old when I read the book “Just For You”. My mom was really surprised that I had learned to read!
