We don’t care how politically incorrect Speedy Gonzales is, it was funny and that’s why we liked it. Yeah, it played on stereotypes, but we weren’t interested in all of that, we just liked to laugh at how the mouse would always outwit the cat, sometimes not even using his speed.

Who is faster, Speedy or The Roadrunner?
Back in the late 90’s early 00’s there was a big deal over the SG stereotypes. But it was ultimately overturned when a few Hispanic groups said SG was a good role model.
Apparently he’s a hero for a large sector of the Mexican population. Cool says I!!
SG was a good role model. He used his brain as well as his speed to defeat the cat.

Isn’t it sad when people try to put logic to humor, and make everyone else suffer their inconsistencies?

He was the only reason I might’ve considered going to Mexico!
As a Latino American, I actually found Speedy Gonzales pretty hilarious! There aren’t enough cartoons with him, though.
Speedy was a good role model, it was his cousin Slowpoke Gonzales who was based on the “lazy Mexican” stereotype.
He was just the opposite of Speedy.

inuendo in a kid’s cartoon is always an epic win
The Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoons have never targeted children so I don’t consider them “kid’s cartoons”. Speaking of innuendos in kid’s cartoons… Animaniacs is epic win.
SG was my hero! A little guy from the sticks who made it big! Sylvester was a bigger stereotype, he spoke with a lisp!

I’m Mexican, and I <3 Speedy! And his cousin, Slowpoke Rodriguez. Best moment ever – "I forgot to tell you…Slowpoke Rodriguez has a gun…"
There’s an episode called Mexicali Schmoes where his cousin Slow Poke Rodriguez is singing about smoking Marijuana to the tune of La Cucaracha.
I’ve get all the Loony Tunes Golden Collections and for I always keep the captions on.
Speedy’s cartoons say alot you don’t catch until you see the captions.

Not quite right. It’s not “La Cucaracha” and it’s Speedy Gonzalez. There’s line in the song he’s singing that definitely sounds to me like, “Marijuana por fumar!” which translates as, “Marijuana for smoking!”
I’ve listened and listened to that song, and I swear on the Holy Virgin (Yep, I’m Hispanic) that’s what he’s singing.
And actually the quote is
“I forgot to told you. That Slowpoke Rodriguez, he pack a gun”
I had to hear it ALL the time from my mom. Its her favorite episode too.
i never saw speedy gonzalez as a bad example of mexicans. if he was being a bad mexican stereotype, he would have been… idk… sleeping all the time and picking fruit and giving cat calls and selling drugs (i don´t really have preconceived notions of mexicans personally but plenty of racists have said as such)… but speedy is just a really clever, really fast guy. there´s nothing negative about that. i love that little guy!
The Easter episode was my favorite! So much amazing Easter chocolate.
Having not seen this since grade school, I had totally missed the line about “Speedy Gonzales is friends with everybody’s sister.” Ha!

I still remember as a kid hearing speedy singing la cucaracha and one of his lyrics were gimme some marijuana par fu mar. I didn’t speek spanish, but my dad picked up on that right away. Gotta love the old days of censorship.
Ironically, Speedy Gonzales is the most popular of all Looney Tunes in Mexico. Even more popular than Bugs Bunny.
I love Looney Tunes, but can’t stand Speedy Gonzales. Not because of any political correctness reason, I just find him a very uninteresting character.

They didn’t make enough of these! They played the same 3 over and over again. Or maybe that was just my pooey local station. Eomund? not to be a spelling nazi or anything, but it’s spelled fumar. (to smoke) LOL 7th grade spanish to the rescue! Speedy was my favorite!
02:05 was major Win, its also a pity these sort of shows dont run anymore, they dont even allow guns like in bugs bunny

I dunno, he is awesome, but not a patch on ‘Rapid Dave’.
The only one I remember was one where a cat (can’t remember if it was Sylvester or just generic cat) went to Mexico and asked about Speedy. He then tried to catch Speedy throughout the episode. It ended with him seeing Slowpoke. The Mexican cat says “That’s Slowpoke Rodriguez, the slowest mouse in all of Mexico, but be careful-” a loud gunshot “he’s got a gun.”
It was awesome, good times, good times.
