The Kuribo’s Shoe was one of the best power-ups on SMB3! We really liked the way you could skip along, low to the ground if you held the directional pad. The only thing that sucked about the Kuribo’s Shoe was that you couldn’t leave the level with it such as other power-ups like the Tanuki Suit and Frog Suit.

That’s why I always picked Mario.
Mario 3 itself is an EPIC WIN! The game is still one of the best games I’ve ever played, still in my top 3.
I’m in love with SMB 3. When I beat the game I was like, “GOD THAT WAS PRETTY HARD!”
I remember quitting because it was so hard.
You beat me to it! Mario 3 is the best game ever! The shoe, Tanuki suit, warp whistles, and hammer brothers music box were just the many extra perks of an already awesome game!
I am so disappointed that Nintendo has never revisited this powerup. I would play an entire game about the Kuribo’s shoe!
“Kuribo” incidentally, is Japanese for “goomba,” which makes sense since they’re the ones wearing them before you come along and swipe one.

So the Kuribo’s Shoe is technically the Goomba’s Shoe?
When I first played SMB3 I thought Mario was hopping around in a paper bag. In my defense it was an old black and white TV and you couldn’t make out many details.
Why wasn’t it in any of the later games? =’(
They should totally bring this back for New Super Mario Bros Wii.

haha! i hooked up my nintendo again last week just to play mario 3! one of the greatest games ever made!
My niece spent hours attempting to play the game in such a way as to get Mario en frogsuit, into the shoe. Which she referred to as a “pocket book.”

Heheh, I remember this! Kuribo’s “boot” (look at it, it ain’t no sneaker) Was Complete Dominance, especially when combined with the fire flower.

It’s not a proper blast from the past when it’s the SNES ported version of the game. Look at those 16bit colours, listen to the depth in that music.

The Kuribo’s Shoe is so awesome, it’s immune to everything BUT bottomless pits.
or pirahna flower fireballs…. or things falling on it. i think you could also get hurt if you were standing still.
also, i agree. this SNES ‘greatest hits’ version blows.
My SNES had a weird glitch in it that when I played SMB3 (SNES All Stars Version) I could press select and put on any powerup from the super mushroom to the hammer suit. If I held down A and pressed select, I could also put on the shoe — in any level! It was a very fun experience.
How much win would it be to have Hammer Mario in Kuribo’s Shoe?

SMBpor, this version is from August 1993. You’re completely wrong about it being a 2003 version. As a 1993 product, it qualifies for this site and it IS nostalgic for many people who grew up with SNES in the early ’90s.

I still play this game! My original NES still works (with some coaxing) and when I feel nostalgic, I get it out and play it. Come to think of it, I’m feeling a little nostalgic right now. Time to get out the Nintendo!!!!
