Epic Win: Suction Cup Gun

once upon a win

Submitted by katsak

We know Nerf still sells all of their fancy dart guns, but we would like to declare ol’ school Suction Cup Guns an Epic Win. The old guns took time and effort to reload, so each shot was more valuable and thus accuracy and precision were rewarded. There’s something less fun about having two dozen foam darts loaded when back in the day you had to load each one and take careful aim before firing.

  1. Alex Swanson says:

Oh these were the best. My favorite toy always and forever.

  2. Stick says:

I was never aloud to have toy guns that looked like that. (Because I had real guns.) So, I was a Nerf gun person. But- I now I just play with my young cousins’ stuff. Ha ha!

  3. Brandon_ha says:

These dart guns remind me of the Calvin and Hobbes comic where they play war. “Kind of a stupid game isn’t it?”

    • Stick says:

You’ve never play War (or any variation of) as a child? Hell, I’m a girl and that was one of my firends and mine’s favorite games! (But so was playng werewolf….so, consider the scource I guess.)

      • Pebbles says:

“Kind of a stupid game isn’t it”
is a quote from Calvin and Hobbes, after a two-way “killing” left no winner and two loosers in their battle.

  4. pitoey says:

You totally forgot to talk about how you had to lick the cup before
shooting every time or else it wouldn’t stick to anything. :p

Yay for spreading germ laden saliva everywhere!
    Talk about biological warfare.

    • Deilax says:

Don’t forget about how we would all talk ab out putting dog pooh on the suction cups because it was supposed to stick better even though non of us ever actually did it.

    • Adam says:

I think we grew up more germ resistant than kids today. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons why. But I fondly remember the suction cup gun and that SKRUNK sound of the spring as you loaded it.

  5. Ydobon says:

Anybody out of me modded those things?
Unscrew, replace spring with harder one, making the trigger hold the spring instead of the arrow, screw, load lead shot by pushing it in with a pen and give hell o those saliva-spreading dead losses…

    • rickybobby says:

Me, too. Except I replaced the suction cup with an exacto blade and used needlenose pliers to load. OUCH!

Needless to say, it only worked once, because mom found out.

    • Pebbles says:

There are entire internet forums dedicated to modding and upgrading these things. Very fun.

  6. Jimbo is bored says:

Not to mention that you got like a dart and a half, so you had to go pick up the one you shot everytime. (Or you got 50 of them, but lost all but 2 in an hour. I’m pretty sure there is an alternate dimension completely filled with these darts.)

    • foobarbaz says:

My mod for this problem was to tie a thread to the dart. I suppose it became a suction harpoon at that time.

  7. Katie says:

I found one of those in my bedroom yesterday. I hadn’t seen it since I was really little, but I remember it hadn’t worked properly even then. I dissected it to find out why, and I found the crusty dried up dead worm that’s been stuck inside for at least 8 years now.

    Eurgh.

  8. D.R. says:

Mom was terrified of those things. Didn’t stop me and my brother from having a near-constant gun battle.

  9. Jenny says:

My dad got me one of those when I was about six or seven. At one point, I stuck one of the darts to my forehead to pretend I was a unicorn. The real adventure began when I tried to take it off… I had a perfectly round hickey right in the middle of my forehead for almost a week…

    • brea says:

      rofl

    • chibidraco says:

The exact same thing happened to me! I don’t know what I was thinking….my mom was being silly and trying to stick one on her head and I said, “No that’s not how you do it let me show you!” *SPLAT*
I went to the first day of 6th grade with the hugest round hickey right in the middle of my forehead. And my mom wouldn’t let me cut my hair to cover it either…oh, the humanity! (LOL)

  10. Kid says:

I remember losing those darts 1 by one and eventually finding a few of them under the couch and behind the tv about a couple months later

  11. Contra7 says:

Dude, I have been searching forever for suction cup guns of that type. The ones you load one at a time with a spring inside. They jam easily. Do you happen to know where I can find them?
