Epic Win: Meow Mix Commercial

Submitted by Real N

“Meow meow meow meow, meow meow meow meow, meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meowwwwww…”

The Meow Mix song was so engrained in our cultural lexicon throughout the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, that when Austin Powers came out in 1997, Dr. Evil’s version of the song quickly became an over-used, obnoxious catchphrase repeated everywhere.

This haunts me in my sleep.

  2. bodo says:

I inflict this song on my kids when I’m feeling especially evil – definitely an epic win. Morris’s voice always kinda rubbed me the wrong way, but this was awesome.
    .
Golly, I didn’t even play the video and I’ve got an ear-worm going…

  3. sillywhiskers says:

Just the name “Meow Mix” makes me smile. I don’t know why.

  4. faunablues says:

I never realized how creepy that cat’s eyes look in the commercial…

  5. Jen says:

Feed me bacon feed me liver meow mix meow mix please deliver!

    *giggles!*

  6. Ziggy says:

A friend of mine in the marines told me that it was rumored that in interrogating particularly recalcitrant prisoners, a constant barrage of the meow-mix song proved to be a particularly effective form of coercion…

  7. Cheryl says:

Epic earworm. I think it’s kind of cute, but it becomes annoying very quickly when someone won’t stop singing it over and over. *coughmomcough*

  8. me-yup says:

Was the feline equivalent of “where’s the beef?”

Nearly equal to the Purina commercial’s “chow, chow, chow.”

  9. vi31 says:

My beginning orchestra students love learning this song. So at least the younger generation still knows it.

  10. Alice says:

omigod, this song was sung at my house every day. it annoyed the hell out of my parents, but my sister and I loved it–still do!

  11. lindegren says:

The woman who teaches music at the school where I work is the original voice for the meows, no joke.

  12. kibbles says:

I didn’t even know that Dr. Evil’s version wasn’t the original, since it’s been in my head since forever. WOW. Something new every day.

  13. Giz Gunnar says:

I loved that commercial when I was a little kid. Neither is the original version from the 70’s. From what I can remember it went:

    I love tuna
    I love liver
    I love chicken
    Please deliver

    I love tuna
    I love liver
    I love chicken
    Please deliver

Now you know the cat’s meow
    Means Meow Mix Meow Mix
    Meow meow meow

    (narrator voicover)

    Meow

I’m not sure about if tuna came first or chicken came third, but I’m sure about the rest.

  14. WMDKitty says:

What ruined it for me was finding out that in the original ad, the kitteh wasn’t meowing, it was *choking*!

  15. k8 says:

Thanks for getting that song stuck in my head!

  16. Sarhii says:

I annoyed my parents for weeks and weeks singing that song.
