Epic Win: The Safety Dance

We can dance. We can do an epic dance! Safety Dance! Why is this song so awesome? And why did we choose it, knowing that we and probably all of you are going to be singing, “S-s-s-s-A-a-a-a-F-f-f-f-E-e-e-T-t-t-Y-y-y Safety. Dance!” It’s because the Safety Dance is such an Epic Win! It’s so catchy! And the lyrics basically tell you that no matter who you are, where you are, or whomever you’re with, it’s always okay to dance.

Eeeeeeeeeee! The Scrubs video fuxed my computer – saw the blue screen o’ death, and when it sorta recovered, it reported a ‘major system error the like of which is rarely seen’.
I lack the nerdness to say it’s more than coincidence (eg a Java vulnerability that’s not specific to this clip) but YOU HAVE BIN WARNED.
I love that song! I always thought they should make a full length movie based on the video. Really.

This remains one of my favorite music videos of all time. It’s just so…happy. Of course it reminds me of the Renaissance Faire, so that’s probably why.

I remember the first time I saw this video was on Beavis and Butthead. I tell you, they sure didn’t know what to think of it.
You know, growing up I never knew what this song was called- even though it was one of my favorites. I thought they were saying “it’s safe to dance.” in the chorus, not “safety dance”.
That’s because they do say “it’s safe to dance”. They changed the name of it when everyone thought it said safety dance.
From what I understand, the band used to play at a venue where the fire laws required them to all be seated at the start of the concert (or something like that), and at a certain point after the show had started, it was announced that is was in fact, “It’s Safe to Dance”, and everybody would start… but the announcement was so difficult to hear, people thought they were announcing the “It’s the Safety Dance”

I’ve seen plenty of safety training videos at work, over the years, and sadly, there was no dancing in them.
My brother taped this song off the radio once, and when he stopped it, for some reason it stuck on the letter “S.” So you heard the end of the song as, “It’s the Sssssssssssssss.”

This song is about the Cold War and the impending nuclear holocaust most of us from that time grew up expecting….
I went on Disney cruise for my 16th birthday, and we had a little thing on the main deck called the Pirates IN the Carribean party- everyone got decked out in pirate gear and danced along with Donald, Goofy, Chip, Dale and Mr. Smee… But the party gets rudely crashed by one Captain Hook, and he forces everyone to do the Safety Dance. I know I wasn’t the only one standing there trying to hold in a giggle fit over the massive nostalgia attack.
