Epic Win: Mouse Trap

once upon a win

The Wikipedia article for Mouse Trap talks about some sort of game play involved in Mouse Trap, but we’re just not buying. All we remember was putting together all the little pieces and setting off the trap over and over again. Then we lost all the pieces and the metal balls became a projectile. That’s how we remember Mouse Trap.

  1. Destin says:

    AVGN win?

  2. Allison says:

    Oooohhh! I loved this game!
My parents bought it for me for Christmas one year. ME!
My sis and bro were soooo jealous!

  3. troll says:

The song is Chariots of Fire by Vangelis. Not anything by Yanni. N00b.

  4. Sarah says:

I wanted this game so badly. I played it a few times and then all the fun just went out of it. I don’t like games that require a ton of assembly. XD

  5. Steve says:

my local pub has this game!

  6. mark says:

I just want to say how truly disappointed I am with this site, these are all the worst nostalgic items ever, its like “hey remember chairs” we used to sit in them when we were little. My son just played Mouse Trap last night, totally brought be back, to last night, how nostalgic. I’m going to have to bring back some real things for you guys. props to the people who do, but this one sucks, like most.

    • Ragtatter says:

Or you could just leave, and take all the “If you were born a year later than me, anything you think is nostalgic sucks” people with you.

Actually, you can take all of the “This is too old for me to remember! Your nostalgia sucks!” people with you.

Grow up and learn to deal with the fact that not everybody grew up in the exact same 10-year-span you did.

      • ... says:

        Amen to that.

      • mark says:

wow. way to completely not understand anything. I wasn’t saying that things you find nostalgic suck, I was saying how do you feel nostalgic about things that you see everyday. If you have a car when your 16 and don’t see it on the road for ten years then when you finally see it you feel nostalgic, not if you see the car everyday. Your a moron. and just to add I was totally target age range for this product and remember the release of the game and getting it and it sucking. If I had not seen this product since then every time I went to any store that sells board games, then I would feel just like the ten year old girl you are getting fingered by your uncle.

    • Higa says:

Thank you Mr. Party pooper. Seriously, these things bring back memories, even if they are still available. We’re not remembering mousetrap, we’re remembering our old game of mousetrap with the board ripped at were you fold it, all the balls being replaced with marbles, and the little cage thing that never worked except three hours later when you were under it, just when your little cousin was getting board. That my friend, is what we’re remembering.

    • o_0 says:

I just want to say how truly disappointed I am with n00bs like you, mark.

  7. musicalchef says:

Haha, I thought I was the only one who never learned to play the game and just had fun setting the trap!

  8. CharonPDX says:

Wait… Mouse trap was a GAME?

    :-P

  9. Angela says:

    “AVGN win?”

    My thoughts exactly.

  10. VS says:

Aww come on, you guys are no fun. Its nostalgic to us because we played it when we were little. It happened in our past, yes? Who cares if its still around today, that doesnt make any difference. it was in fact around when a bunch of us were little as well, therefore its nostalgic.

Mousetrap was definitely my favorite game ever! Me and my sisters actually did try to play it the correct way, if you can believe that, lol. We ended up breaking the little piece that hung on top of the bathtub so we taped it back together- it only worked for one trap set.. then you had to retape it up again. But we kept playing with it that way! =)

  11. tori says:

this is now my favorite thing to come of Mouse Trap

  12. D.R. says:

Whirr, clack. This was such a cool game because of the trap and the basket. It had moving parts! It was like ten different games at once. They don’t even try to think of ones like these anymore.

  13. ... says:

Then we lost all the pieces and the metal balls became a projectile.

LOLed. Seriously, did anyone actually play the game?

    • Joei says:

I think I played the game once, it bored me so I went back to hijacking my cousin’s box and just setting the trap up!

  14. k says:

I loved this! And it was a game I could get my parents to play with me – they had fun too, and it didn’t take forever, like monopoly. And I’d say it counts as nostalgia ’cause I was playing it atleast 42 years ago!

  15. Failerella says:

exactly – it counts as nostalgia because it’s at least (42, really)? Well I know at least 35 or so.

I never actually played it, just set it up and set it off.

    • Higa says:

I’m getting the feeling that everyone did.

    • Isengrim says:

Yeah, me too. There was something fascinating about having your own Rube Goldberg device, just like what Wile E Coyote used in the cartoons (but not so dangerous). :)

And it’s nostalgic for me, coz I haven’t seen it since I was a kid.

  16. Meg-Meg says:

My little brother has a newer version of the game. I think the only difference from the old version is different pics on the board and box. Brighter colours too.

  17. Janet says:

loveddddd mouse trap! but mine came missing the larger stand for the top of the staircase-looking piece, and with two see-saws. i used the extra see-saw in its place, but it didn’t always work :\

  18. Nerfy says:

Had this one as a kid in the 60s…. This and Green Ghost were always my favorite games.
    Definitely Rube Goldberg inspired… WIN

  19. Orchid says:

I used to fantasize about getting caught in the trap. I’m starting to think I was a strange child.

  20. JonnysWife says:

Oh yes I remember this game it actually took longer to put it together than it did to play the game. But I loved it when I was growing up

  21. elark0 says:

I used to play this game with my dad…sort of. We’d never play the “game”, we’d just set it up, then roll the dice and see who got caught first. My board was ripped where it folded, and the game came in the BIGGEST BOX EVER.

The “NEW” Mouse Trap game is kinda crappy, I played it recently with my friend’s 6-year old. Trying to actually follow the rules with a kid of six is next to pointless, they get bored, and now they have these stupid cardboard pieces of cheese you’re supposed to trade for extra chances at turning the crank or something…it didn’t make any sense!

So yeah, I’m nostalgic for my OLD Mouse Trap game, the half-falling apart, colors faded, pieces broken and chipped and missing altogether one….cuz it brings back good memories of my dad, who passed away several years ago.

  22. Laura says:

Aww. My mom wouldn’t let me have Mouse Trap.

  23. lost90skid says:

i used to steal the mouses from my skool they were cute

  24. RCIAG says:

Had some neighbor friends that had this but we never played it because we could never figure out how to put the damn thing together!

  25. Tyche says:

We had this in the 80s as well as similar though water themed game called Splish Splash (which we were only allowed to play outside). I can’t find a pic of Splish Splash, alas – all I get are links for a video game and baby bath toys, but it was fun! The object was to avoid having your little duck get dumped in one of the water barrels. Anyone else recall this one?

    • armedtigercatt says:

Mouse Trap was one that I played all the time. Can’t recall Splish Splash, but my fav game from back then was Uncle Wiggly… all I remember really was a rabbit with a monicle and a cane from the box, and that it was part of the Candy Land & Chutes and Ladders set… Nobody I know seems to recall that game at all!! Anyone remember it?

  26. Racecar 56 says:

I have one of these! Not the same box though…

  27. Laura says:

I used to just build the set (it always took a while…) and then play with it. Once I used real cheese to “feed” the mice; made a huge mess. I got into such big trouble from mom!

  28. WI says:

Lol, I love how the description is EXACTLY how I remember this game… Good times man, Good times.

  29. 4EverLSU says:

    Greatest. Game. EVAR!!!!!!111!!!!ELEVENTYONE
