Epic Win: Fuzzy Pumper

once upon a win

Submitted by Kim G

Epic win for anything Play-Doh related! Double win for having such a long-lasting name (32 years and counting) even though the name has become at least slightly inappropriate.

Child’s toy called the “Fuzzy Pumper”?

    Wow…

Epic fail if you ask me…

  3. sillywhiskers says:

I always wanted one as a kid. It looked like so much fun to make the hairdos. Maybe I’ll find one at a tag sale…for my kid…yeah, not for me, of course. :-)

    • Stick says:

I always wanted one too but I never got one. When my younger cousin got a giant ass Play Dough set, I couldn’t resist it.

      • ratrapp says:

Oh man. I STILL have mine. And I’m not too proud to admit that I bust it out every once in a while. Good times from the Play Doh folks.

      • RCIAG says:

Ditto. Always wanted more Play Doh stuff but never got it. Same for a Matchbox racetrack & a real Easy Bake oven.

    • jjmblue7 says:

My sister got a bunch of Play-Doh one Christmas to use in the preschool she was working at at the time. I stole the canister of blue Play-Doh to use for Cranium. Also I had a buch of Play-Doh toys, but the dought was nigh impossible to get out of them and eventually got ecnrusted inside.

there’s this mexican candy that pushes out its goodness the way you push out the play-doh in the holes.

I’m always afraid I’ll get old and confuse them.

We had this exact one in the picture! So awesome.

  6. belaidun says:

I was lucky enough to have this, and still have it, SOMEwhere. It WAS a lot of fun. Let me tell you, though – the little plastic scissors that came with it REALLY cut hair. Ask my little sister! Mom still won’t let me forget it, nearly 30 years later.

  7. Phil says:

Are we sure this is the right name? Used to have one as a kid, and it was always called the “Play-Doh Mop Top Hair Shop.”

  8. Bear says:

It was definitely called the Mop Top Hair Shop in the UK :o )

Never had one myself though :o ( Deprived I was!! DEPRIVED!! lol

  9. Krepta says:

Whatever the official name is, in my daycare center it was called the “Cigarette Hair Machine.” This is because whoever used it last would ALWAYS fail to clean the Play-Doh out of the people’s follicles after use, so the next person to pull them out of the boxes would find that the first batch of hair would be tipped with dried Play-Doh plugs, inevitably a different color than the hair color they chose, making their hair salon client seem to be growing long, filtered cigarettes out of his or her head.

    Kids are really weird.

  10. puddy says:

The “Fun Factory” was better imo

  11. hee hee says:

I remember it as the fuzzy pumper playdoh barber shop and the one in the picture is what I had… the one in the video… not the same.

Yeah when I was a kid it was called “Fuzzy Pumper”. One Christmas this was all I wanted and my parents got it for me. I later when on to be a hairdresser and they swore it was because of all the fun I had with this toy. Ahhhh….gooood times….gooood times!!!!

  12. i-swoon-for-thee says:

im in 8th grade and i stil love the smell of play doh *sniffs play doh*

  13. Racecar56 says:

    Play D’OH!

  14. Koratah says:

I still have about three of these. Though since I was such a lazy ass as a kid, old playdoh renders most of them not usable.. Now that I think about it, I have about 2 boxes of Play-doh merchandise in my basement.. I’ll miss this stuff.

  15. Tboz says:

I am another one who wanted this but never even got to play with one. Anyone remember the song/jingle from the commercial? “Brother needs a little off the top, In the Fuzzy Pumper Barber Shop. We’ll fix mommy’s hair just so, You can make it with Play-doh!”

  16. Anonymous says:

AWWW! I used to freakin love this thing this is nothing but an epic win!
    This and that dentist set!
    God I loved the 90’s…

  17. Pianogirl says:

I had this. Actually I think my mom bought it for me twice in my childhood. It was only fun for a little while. The scissors that came with it were SO useless and the crank was very loud and obnoxious, like Boggle. I liked it, but it also had some kind of plastic mat or something to put down. The holes in the head would get sticky and then dry up. It was fun to see it coming out, almost dirty, but after a while, you were done and it was time for Colorforms….
