Big Red was one of the only gums of the 80’s and 90’s with flavor that actually lasted for a decent amount of time. We remember not liking Big Red as kids because it was too spicy. The cinnamon flavor was just too intense for our sensitive little tongues.
Remember this commercial? With the kid from Christmas Story as a band geek making out with some girl on the street corner? Yeah, that’d never happen…

Great gum. I didn’t realize until now that was the same guy from A Christmas Story, but then these commercials were on when I was still young enough not to care yet.
When I was a kid, my best friend’s older sister told us that the reason people were always kissing in Big Red commercials was because it made your boobs grow, so then she and I of course chewed a ton of it even though neither of us liked it.
Hah… I remember being told that at one point to. I remember having responded ‘But why would I even WANT big boobs?’
Little did I know…
Utterly revolting. There’s a ‘Big Red’ soda, too, but I don’t think it’s connected. Vomitastic.
I LOVE(d) this gum! For the longest time it was the Wrigley gum that didn’t use aspartame. Unfortunately, it now has a “new, better taste” that includes…aspartame. BOOOO. Now the only gum that doesn’t have aspartame or sucralose in it is Bubblicious. Fake sugar sucks!
This was the lava soap of gum. It virtually removed a layer from your tongue.

I remember me & my friends daring each other to lick the wrapper the gum came in & stick it on our foreheads. It freakin’ burned after a few seconds! Tried to see who could keep it there the longest. I always lost, but it was ok, it left a huge red mark on your skin when you peeled it off. Ahhh… good times.

I’ve never been much of a fan of gum, especially cinnamon flavored…but maybe I’ll try it again. It can’t be that bad, right?
I love love love this gum. Sadly, if I eat too much of it, it hurts to even move my tounge.
Mmm…loooove Big Red…and it’s good for heartburn and indigestion, too…found that out as a kid on a vacay in Florida after I’d eaten one too many bowls of chicken noodle soup…*shudder*…still love the gum, but can’t stand chicken noodle soup!
I love the song, that’s the real epic win here. I wish commercials still used well-written catchy jingles…
