Epic Win: Pace “New York City?!?” Commercial

Submitted by C Rother

Pace was just as watered down and not as delicious as any other non-homemade salsa, but they sure knew how to market it well. “New York City?!?” If you say it in the right tone, you can probably remind just about anyone that was old enough to watch television in the 80’s and early 90’s.

It’s a shame they went and ruined it with this half-assed remake. They don’t even use the incredulous “New York City?!?” line…

Incorrect source or offensive?

  1. Mandy says:

Loved the “old” Pace commercials, but hated the product. It was too damn salty. If I bought my salsa off the shelf, I’d get chi-chi’s (before a silly food scare shut them down) or Tostidos. At least they had substance and weren’t so freakin’ SALTY! I get enough salt from the chips, TYVM!

  2. BRMBug says:

    Get a rope! :D

  3. Allison says:

“New York City!?!? Get a rope!”
I moved to Idaho from New york when I was 15. And I met my now-husband that same year.
That was the first thing he said to me when we met……….

  4. Anna says:

And to think, I live with the guy who said ‘get a rope’. So weird to see this commercial again. oO

  5. utaduta says:

9 times out of ten of i’m referencing New york city i say it in that tone! ha!

  6. Anonymous says:

The original commercials in the beginning for a short while didn’t say “New York City?!” they said, “New Jersey?!” instead… I’m guessing folks from New Jersey complained and the ad was changed.

    • PoodleGroomer says:

My best guess is that Campbell’s Soup, based in Camden, New Jersey, took it as a personal affront to their competing product and sent them a polite complaint missive, scribed by a rottweiler lawyer. They then bought them out and consolidated their products under the Pace name. It is not nice to make fun of mom’s New Jersey kitchen.

    • fish eye no miko says:

Oh, good, I’m not the only one who remembers that! I think I like “New York City!” better. though.

  8. Carole says:

Sorry, I didn’t mean to post the above twice. :)

  9. puppatoons says:

Oh, yeah! You gotta say “New York City??” in the same vein as “Git off mah land!”

  10. Kyon says:

I loved Pace salsa, was the only store brand that was hot enough for me. The “New York City” line is in the new commercial, it just wasn’t delivered correctly.

  11. cinni says:

think is awesome – i kinda thought i was the only person in the world whose brain automatically says “new york city??!?” whenever i hear those three words together

  12. Anonymous says:

The only real Pace commercial is the New Jersey version! Harumph!!

  13. Nightdragon says:

Hah.. i loved these commercials, and was sad to find out why they stopped them… they’re now distributed out of none other than NEW YORK CITY. funny.
