Epic Win: The Goonies

Submitted by S Weadock
Call it Party Law if you want, but after enough beer is consumed, at least one large guy in attendance WILL do the following:
The famous Truffle Shuffle!
The Goonies is another 80’s movie with a great theme. Cool video, too. Remember when videos were little movies unto themselves? Heck, remember when MTV PLAYED videos? If you remember none of that, here’s some Cyndi Lauper for you doing “Goonies R Good Enough:

ahh my fav. movie.
I “squee”ed when I saw this was today’s epic win. I don’t know WHY I liked this movie so much but I loved it. It probably had something to do with Chunk. He was an awesome character.
I never could understand why so many people liked this movie.
To this day, every time I’m buying ice cream… I say “Rah key Rhow-ed?” (best I can type Sloth’s line)
LOL! Me too!!!
Don’t forget his laugh at the end of it. “Heh-Heh. Heh”
Is it bad that I can name most of those wrestlers? And I always wondered if Roddy Piper wore his kilt the RIGHT way.
80’s wrestlers FTW! Captain Lou Albino, Rowdy Roddy Piper, the Iron Sheik. Don’t forget the Junkyard Dog, Kamala, Sgt Slaughter, Hulkamania, Jerry ‘the King’ Lawler.
Oops. Didn’t watch the video to the end before I posted. Poor Andre the Giant. Too bad he’s dead.
The goofy WWF wrestlers are the best thing with this video (besides the 80 hawtness of Lauper!). Great wacky comedic characters.
BTW you forgot to mention Moolah on the list of wrestlers in the video.
I always wondered why it wasen’t Hogan insted of Andre in the end. Seeing as Roddy was feuding with Hogan at the time (the MTV special might hav been after this video). Maybe the video was to wacky and comedic even for the Hogan character.
Oh yeah, almost forgot the funniest part in the MV, in the end when Piper tries to open the door of the car passing bye, wonder if that was an adlib from his part, just some kind passing bye. Any case, funny
Heeeyyyyy yooooooouuuuu guuuuuyyyyyysssss!!!!!!!!!1
My oldest son loved this movie! I cannot tell you how many times we have seen it.
They sure don’t make moovies like this anymore – or music videos, for that matter.
80s vids were so weird.
I love when the mom asked Mouth to translate her intructions to the Spanish lady. “Always separate the drugs”
Mrs. Walsh: Now, Rosalita, this is the attic. Mr. Walsh doesn’t like anybody up here, ever. I guess that’s why it’s always open.
Mouth: (In Spanish) Never go up there. It’s filled with Mr. Walsh’s *sexual torture devices*.
Wow, i must have seen this movie over 200 times in the 80’s/90’s. If you haven’t already, get the DVD. There is also a Goonies forum: http://www.thegoonies.org/BB/
“Oh, you idiot! You glued it on upside-down! ”
that movie is the best. i loved it when i was a kid and still love it today. when they put up Stand By Me, I figures Goonies was close behind.
OH man, best movie ever!
had to add one more:
“I’m gonna go set up some booty traps…”
“Dont you mean booby traps?”
“Thats what I said, booty traps”
*does truffle shuffle*
crap, I’m still jiggling lol
Andre the Giant deserves his own Epic Win; may he Rest in Peace. Maybe one for the Princess Bride too…
I submited an epic nostaligic win for it! Hopefully we’ll see it soon!
Hahahaha, OMG I loved this movie! Yeah it’s really bad, but it was concentrated awesome when I was a kid, and me and the neighborhood gang went to see it en masse. I had a huge crush on Data, played by Key Huy Quan. Oddly enough, a few years later I’d have a crush on Data, played by Brent Spiner.
let us not forget this is also the only good movie that was ever filmed in Oregon.
Err…I have to disagree.. Please Don’t forget that Short Circuit is another epic win movie that takes place (and I believe was filmed in) Astoria Oregon, the very setting for the Goonies.
My favorite character was Mama Fratelli. Little did I know then that one of her lines would come back to haunt me later, “Kids suck.” Hehe. She was so mean and scary!
OMG, OMG! Best of the best! My bff and I used to act this movie out – had tonnes of fun running around the neighbourhood pretending we were in caverns, making up booby traps. I never saw it in the theater, but I knew all the lines. lol
Watched it every day when it came out on VHS.
The tape didn’t have the Octopus, though. What was with that?
BEST movie ever! “Goonies never say die!”
The theater version didn’t have the octopus, either, I remember when Data said “the octopus was really scary” at the end, the whole theater laughed, because we thought he was making it up. Little did we know, when the movie was on tv, there was an octopus! And it’s in the DVD extras now.
SLOTH. . . . LOVE. . . CHUNK!! That still makes me tear up. XD
>le sigh< SUCH a great movie.
I can still hear the mom trying to pronounce Data’s name:
"And YOU! Dotta, d-dotta, data" heh
Ruth. . . . Ruth. . . . Baybee? Ruth! Sorry, had to put that one in there too.
LOVE that movie! I wanted to be a Goonie!
Chunk was in my Junior High English class, too. Seriously. Francis Parkman Junior High, Woodland Hills, CA.
*siiiiiiiiiigh* Oh, Sean Astin, how did I crush on you after this…
I always had a thing for awkward, brave and unusual guys.
I am now convinced that there are about 150 jackasses that just vote thumbs down for no reason other than to get off on it…
Def an epic win movie.
my favorite movie of all time
“…and I started to make this throw up sound like, whoooaaaaahhh. blllllooooooouuuuughhhhh.”
I’ve seen it a million times!
Oh my God. This movie…. I’m pretty sure I have the entire film memorized. When I first saw it, I freaking hated it, but I’m SO GLAD it grew on me. EPIC WIN. And Sloth goes to this local restaurant by the university I go to every other weekend. I could totally picture him coming through the door with a “HEEEEY YOUU GUUUUUUUUYS!”
Sloth is dead.

When they’re interrogating Chunk. So many great lines there…. “I pushed my sister down the stairs and blamed it on the dog.” “I stole my uncles toupee and glued it on to my face when I played Moses in the school play.”
Win!
I was born in 1980, and I can say with authority that this movie was a BIG part of just about any 80’s kids’ childhood. The classic truffle-shuffle.. Mouth’s hilarious Spanish “translation”. Lovable but bumbling Data…. what ISN’T great about this movie.
But the thing that made it such an epic win for me as a child was the whole concept of adventure.. that a few regular, ordinary kids could have an adventure of that magnitude..outwit the bad guys, find treasure, solve the ADULTS problems… I always wanted that! I also loved the cloudy, rainy coast setting.. it added to the mood and made Astoria, Oregon one of the places I wanted to visit.
what a weird film, it scarred a generation of children, in my opinion. who makes this garbage, anyway?
