Epic Win: Mikey (Life Cereal)

All together now: “HE LIKES IT!!! HEY, MIKEY!!!”
It seems that Little Mikey (John Gilchrist in real life) was yet another “victim” of the pop rock urban legend. According to Wikipedia:
A few years after the commercial’s debut, an urban legend developed that the actor who had played Little Mikey had died soon afterward when his stomach exploded after consuming Pop Rocks and soda. The myth — long since disproved as both nonfactual (as John Gilchrist is still alive) and scientifically improbable (as the chemicals in both Pop Rocks and soda are not capable of exploding a human stomach) — still resurfaces every few years, usually surrounding an identifiable child actor.
Those evil Pop Rocks strike again! Or not.
I liked the commercial, but never developed a liking for Life cereal. Bleh!
The cereal was merely OK. The commercial was far superior.
Aw, I love Cinnamon Life, even to this day.
Now I want some. :/
I liked the toys that it showed at the end of the commercial. I had quite a few of them
I actually went to school with John Gilchrest’s brother Brian. (Brian himself was in a Pepperidge Farm commercial.) They are both very much alive.
I cannot even begin to tell you how much flack I got as a kid because of these commercials. It really sucked that my parents named me Michael and I happened to love Life cereal. To this day, every time my brother sees me eating anything, I hear “He likes it! Hey Mikey!”
as a kid who grew up in a house were LIFE was a “sweet” cearal i grew to love it and still eat it to this day. i have some in the pantry right now!
I remember the joke that Mikey died because “His mother took his Life away!”
Yep yep, still eat Life cereal a lot in our house.
But I think that the best part of the commercial was all the epic FP toys at the end of the commercial. I wish they still did those coupons…
