I loved that cartoon! I watched it almost every weekend. Don Adams was perfect for Inspector Gadget. I liked Brain too. He didn’t talk like a lot of cartoon animals do but he was pretty smart.

I always thought the movie got everything wrong in comparison to the cartoon. (At least I only saw it when it got to being on TV, thank goodness.) They should have either got someone who looked like Kramer or Beakman to play Gadget (crazy hair and big nose and some degree of awkward clumsiness), they should have set the main location in Europe (Gadget was supposed to be part of Interpol and a most of the cartoon scenery looked like the Alps from what I could tell), and the car should have been a small and sporty Citroen or Alfa-Romeo (because I figure that’s what the cartoon one was. One of those weird funky sporty euro-cars that never made it stateside.) Also the movie car never changed to van mode. The van had its uses too.

Apparently whoever made the movie never bothered to really watch the cartoon. Maybe it’s close enough plot or sript-wise (if you’ve seen one episode, you know how they all go), but completely off the mark in all the other aspects. If only someone would watch the actual cartoon, take note of the above points, it might be worth a re-do. The current movies should not count as being canon.

Outside of that, I’m betting anyone who’se ever watch the cartoon finds that it’s hard to get that theme/background music out of ones head.

The problem with Inspector Gadget is that if you’ve seen one episode, you ‘ve seen them all. They didn’t make eighty-six episodes of IG; they made the same episode eighty-six times.

Wow, my memory is clear enough to remember that it was the same voice. I didn’t realize that when I watched some of Get Smart TV a few months ago. It’s such a distinctive voice, I don’t know why I didn’t connect the two.

According to the good folks at Wikipedia, it was simultaneously released in France and the US (created in Canada, drawn in Japan, directed by a guy who shares his name with an Italian gold-medalist sailor, and the music composed by an Israeli who had also lived in France–thus, he happened to write French lyrics for it.) Not a US fail, a Tricouleur win.

Oh wow I loved this show, but I’m really disappointed with the English version of the song. The original song in French (the show was Franco Italian if I remember correctly) had really funky lyrics and they just turned them to dee dee dee. I guess people were lazy back in the 80s

i was always pissed they never showed claws face, it was annoying not having a face for the villain. i feel that the action figure face matches perfectly to claws angry gravelly voice. he was an old man that sounded angry at life in general

I actually got my most vivid nightmare from this show. I was inspector gadget and was chased down a hall by elephants. I still remember the dream and it still scares me!
I loved this show so much. Why don’t they have good shows like this on anymore?

Whenever I have a pen that clicks to put the ink part out I for some reason click the theme song with it, I even do it with out thinking about it. I’ve done it for years too lol

And the woman who did Penny’s voice is still doing voice-overs today, as wells as being onscreen herself. Some roles include Lenne, Calli, And Belgemine from Final Fantasy X and X-2, and Numbuh 5 from Codename: Kids Next Door…And yes I still watch some cartoons as an adult since some are good/original and the vast majority of cartoons aren’t crime dramas.

He also did the voice of Tennessee Tuxedo. I could have sworn on Tennessee Tuxedo he told his walrus pal Chumley “Don’t get smart with me.” – but I have the DVD and it isn’t on there.

Did he ever say anything like that on Inspector Gadget? I know it was something Don Adams said in a cartoon, and these are the only two I can think of.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah nostalgia wave….woooooo :3 man, i LOVED this show. me and my older brother would always want to watch this show, but where we lived it came on right when “kratz creatures” did (i think around 4:00pm :O) and my eldest brother would want to watch that. so we had to take turns each day ;_; luckilly it was 2 turns to his 1, so we got to watch that the majority of times….love that theme XD

I totally agree with you. It always made me mad to. Dr Claw though… you gotta give it up to one of the only vilains in television that remained faceless. Too many shows sell out and give a face…

I watched this show all the time as a kid. It always kind of pissed me off that the girl and the dog did all the work and Gadget got all the praise. He’s an idiot, dang it! He doesn’t deserve any praise!
