Epic Win: Connect Four
Submitted by K Mack
Originally, this game was called “The Captain’s Mistress.” From mastersgames.com:
The classic game of ‘Four In A Row’, (aka 4 In A Line), that has been enjoyed by children and adults for centuries.
During his long sea voyages, Captain Cook was apparently often absent of an evening and eventually the crew began to joke that he must have a mistress in his cabin. When they discovered that the Captain had simply been playing this game with the ship’s scientists, the game was christened ‘The Captain’s Mistress’!
They now make a giant version of Connect Four! This rocks (and makes it harder for sis to be sneaky):

The “Captain’s Mistress” thing doesn’t make any sense. How can Capt’n Cook play this game by himself? He must’ve played the game with his parrot or something
I used to play connect four with my neighbor’s cockatiel… and he would win.
Dude, he played with his scientist
Read it again
oops read it wrong he played it with his scientists lol
Connect Four was okay, but for a real challenge, I prefer Connect Forty.
I’m the Connect Four Master, and I’m not polite about it either!
(It’s a huge accomplishment, and I bet you all are totally jealous, right? Right? Is this mic on….)
Pretty sneaky, sis!
I was the Connect Four champion in 3rd grade. Undefeated!
The best part of the game was dumping all the checkers out at the end. My brother and I would fill up the board without trying to make a connection, just so we could empty it all over the kitchen table. Good times.
The yellow player is an idiot. There’s an obvious red win in the middle row. Someone was definitely NOT their third grade Connect Four champion.
Also, it has been proven that by going first and placing in the middle row, you can always win. I googled connect four a while back and found some dude’s master’s thesis on it. Of course, once you read it, it takes all the fun out of the game.
when i went to europe, this game was televised
seriously, everybody thought it was the shit
It was the what? I know that most colloquialisms are not meant literally, but why is this one considered something positive?
I’ve got no idea. English makes the least sense to me out of all the languages I know.
This was a good game. It combined checkers, tic-tac-toe, and being really nasty.
I remember in 3rd grade no-one could beat me at connect 4. The most people could do was hang on until we run out of pieces.
You didn’t just use various odd objects as extra pieces? Also, a cats game could be extended with a second board…
Epic Win does not even begin to describe the awesomeness that was connect 4!!
great entertainment beating my brother at it before the Internet was invented
Hey I did the same thing to my brothers too! Small world.
I actually downloaded a connect 4 app onto my ipod touch-a-ma-jigger
been playing it like crazy! you even get to slide the little release at the bottom to start a new game:D
“I shanked your Jenga ship? We’re playing Connect Four!”
I love playing Connect Four when I get the chance. Usually, the game I play gets close to the end when either I win, I lose by not looking carefully, or neither me nor the opponent wins.
even better —> Travel Connect Four. Not much larger than an Ipod and twice as fun!
The other day Keith Olbermann made a Connect Four comment-
“Diagonal… Pretty sneaky sis!”
i loved this game. i got it for my son this christmas. we now have epic battles of connect 4! the tradition continues!
Never challenge a Thai bar girl to a game of Connect Four…she’ll win EVERY time!!!
Chuck Norris can win a game of Connect Four in only three moves.
Chuck Norris’ hand is the only hand that beats a royal flush.
I assume you are counting the opponent’s move in the “three moves”?
Woot! This is the official game of the bar that my friends and I love in NYC. Even better when drinking
I remember going over to my aunts house and playing this game, although I couldn’t tell you how to play it now.
This Giant Connect 4 Game is actually made by Garden Games Limited in the UK. http://www.gardengames.co.uk/acatalog/Giant_Connect_4.html
i remember playing this everyday at my after school program. there was this one boy no one could beat, even the group leaders. for his birthday he got 6 connect 4 games and kept every single one. only one kid beat him. good times
great game, accurate commercial with the sister and brother playing. we enjoyed this for many hours.
