Epic Win: “Weird Science”

Once Upon A Win

Submitted by T TR

John Hughes was the MAN as far as 80’s movies are concerned. “Weird Science” is a bit different than Hughes’ typical boy-meets-girl high school stories: in this movie, boys BUILD girl. Who hasn’t wanted to build their perfect mate? After one too many bad dates, the idea sounds better and better, doesn’t it?

“Weird Science” also had one of the best themes ever, by the excellent Oingo Boingo:

  1. Retro 80's Girl says:

AHAHAHAHA….the wearing of bras on their heads, I’ll NEVER forget that scene :p

  2. Strong One says:

Anything bigger.. your risking a thumb sprain!
    CLASSIC

  3. DeathtoDuckHuntDog says:

I haven’t seen that movie in a million years. Is that the one where the kid’s brother gets turned in to a giant pile of sh*t?

    • 2wellread says:

Yep – and the brother (Chet) was played by Bill Paxton, no less…
“You can’t leave Chet like that, it’ll ruin Christmas!”

  4. HP says:

You like Oingo Boingo, but are afraid of Furbys? WTF, dude?

  5. Megara says:

Oingo Boingo = epic freaking win. Hands down.

  6. Impetua says:

My brother and I were both Boingo fans and each had a copy of the album (on cassette tape!) that this song was on. At the end of the song on MY tape (but not his) Kelly Preston’s voice comes on saying, “Well, what would you little maniacs like to do first?” My brother was forever trying to get me to swap with him.

  7. Guido says:

Oingo Boingo = good. Just beware of The Forbidden Zone, it shows what happens when brilliant people take too many drugs.

    • Ham says:

Forbidden Zone is awesome and perfect in almost every way. And that’s coming from someone who’s taken no drugs at all.

      • johhnysgirl says:

Agreed – The Forbidden Zone is one of my favorite movies of. All. Time.

        Oy vey, the Yiddishe Charleston!

  8. S57sunny says:

As much as I envied her looks, I loved this movie! Especially what she did to Chet, it’s just a shame she couldn’t have left him that way! Has anyone else ever noticed how much young Robert Downey Jr. looked like young Tony Curtis?

  9. Sydney says:

    Danny Elfman FTW. no doubt.~

  10. Growler says:

OK, now that’s just TOO freaky. I was on my way to work today, listening to an 80’s weekend on a local radio station, and something completely unrelated to this movie somehow had me thinking of this movie of 795. I come home from work, scope out the site (as usual) and here it is.

OK, get out of my head! There’s not enough air in there for both of us!

  11. Jessi says:

If you have a Netflix account this is in their “Instant Watch” section at the moment:

  12. ascatal says:

“from my heart and from my hand why don’t they understand Weird Science!” awesome flick funny too, just brilliant film making

  13. NO WAI says:

Love the song, had to queue it up in iTunes for the post. Don’t really remember the movie though. Off to netflix I guess!

“From my heart and from my hand why don’t people understand?”

An anthem for every Mad Scientist!

  14. Siava says:

I loved the movie, but this poster is kind of creepy. Her pose looks painful! And all of a sudden I hate her because she’s beautiful even though she told me not to. :P

  15. Kelly says:

No! Labrinth needs to be on here immediately!!!

  16. The Crapture says:

“He pukes…you die…How about a nice greeeeeaaaasy pork sandwich…SERVED IN A DIRTY ASHTRAY?!”

  17. MK says:

This is one of my favorite movies, and the theme is one of my favorite songs! Oingo Boingo alone is an epic win!

  18. Daisy says:

haha I love oingo boingo! btw, does anyone else get kind of creeped out by danny elfman in their music videos… (especially little girls, but hey, it’s still my favorite song)

  19. AyDeeDee says:

Never seen the movie, though I really want to now. I also love that song, but I’ve heard that it’s the band’s least favourite of theirs, so I feel a little bad liking it so much…

  20. no way says:

from my heart and from my hand
    why can’t people understand
    my intentions?

  21. DigDug says:

Chicks can’t hold the smoke. That’s what it is.

  22. onceajinx says:

    So many great lines!

“Not us.” “Not here.” “No way!”

    “I do not toss off!”

And of course, “You forgot to hook up the doll.”
