Epic Win: Snoopy Sno Cone Machine

win-pictures-snoopy-sno-cone-machine

Submitted by S Paul

These are still around, but they’re nowhere near as popular as they were when we were kids. I’m not sure why, it looks fun to use. Maybe it’s because they don’t advertise like they used to:

Or could the waning popularity have to do with the sticky-mess-everywhere factor? I know that’s why I never got one, even after months of begging. Then again, I grew up in the Frozen North, so a Sno Cone machine was a little beside the point. Back in my day, I had to use what nature gave me! Yeah! Git offa mah lawn! (Note: don’t eat the yellow snow.)

If I thought a Snoopy Sno Cone Machine could withstand adult manhandling, I’d try one out. Would it be wrong to add lots of vodka to the mix?

Nope. it’s not wrong. It’s awesome.

    Nostalgic FAIL

  2. KaBooM says:

Why fail? I so used to have this! It was awesome!

  3. Jules says:

I wanted one of these so much and never got one.

    • Anonymous says:

haha for you. i played with my sister’s

    • brinnann says:

Me too. :( Now I see the newer versions (not the Snoopy ones) and often consider buying one.

    • vi31 says:

Me too. Still that thing I wished for and never got. I even have a letter I wrote to “Santa” in kindergarten asking for one. *sigh*

    • Anonymous says:

I did too!!!! It was always on my christmas list, but never got one. I used to cut out pictures from magazines and glue stick them to a piece of construction paper as my christmas list…and this was always on it!

  4. Matt Hanson says:

Good writing. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed my Google News Reader..

  5. loggergrl says:

I so wanted one of these!!

Note to the poster: vodka will likely end up making a soupy mess since it doesn’t freeze at the same temp ;)

  6. MinisterofSilly says:

I still have mine AND it still works. :D

  7. Rachel says:

I think my aunt still has one of these.. Unused, sitting on a shelf somewhere.
    Win =D

  8. Chessie says:

Not quite as cool, but 7-11 sometimes has a ‘Slurpee’ machine where all you have to do is put in one can of soda and it’ll make a slurpee for you.

Add tequila and we’ll have margaritas! :)

    • TC says:

We don’t have 7-11’s down here. I might have to venture north just to walk inside one and see what all the fuss is about.

  9. Anonymous says:

my neighbour down the street had one of these! we’d go to her house and play on the slip and slide and eat slushies

  10. junkshop_coyote says:

Snoopy looks like he’s sporting a Devo energy dome.

  11. Tah says:

Hah, I still have mine. I don’t use it much, though. The hand crank was a god-awful thing to use.

  12. skrpune says:

I wanted one of these so bad…my cousin had one and I was sooo jealous, but at least we did get to use it when we visited her.

  13. Anonymous says:

I know why they’re not popular anymore- they don’t work. I had one as a kid, and it never turned out the nice shaved ice like it was supposed to. My mom ended up getting a big fancy shaved ice machine from Pampered Chief to make her two whiny kids shut up about wanting sno cones.

    • :D says:

Lol, yup, the handle thing in the back was really hard to turn when you pressed down on the ice like you have to, took at least 2 people just to work the thing. See how the whole thing jumps around on the table when the kid in the video turns it? That’s exactly what it’s like :D We still used ours even though it didn’t work very well… And a snowman syrup dispenser? Maybe I’m not remembering and ours was a used one… but I don’t remember those at all, we just ate plain shaved ice, lol!

  14. Nic says:

heck yes, i had this. i remember using it on the front porch in the summer :)

  15. Lily says:

I had one of these exact ones! But the hand crank was a sonuvabitch, so I bought a high-model electric one last year instead.

  16. ruth says:

Oh the blisters!! and it didn’t work well unless you jammed the ice down the shoot and press it as hard as you could!

  17. Rachel of Cyberia says:

We didn’t have one when I was young, but I got one last year for Christmas! It works great with frozen Tang cubes.

  18. donna says:

We always had snocones at school at the PTA carnivals. I guess that was enough for me…

  19. bbnflpn says:

i was wondering when this was gonna be on the page, i have a some what funny yet disturbing story about snoopy snow cone maker

for those of you who had one, you might remember that the handle fell off quite a bit (if not then maybe it was just my sscm)

well my dad had enough of its falling apart, so he decided that he was going to fix it, with super glue.

well the glue had glued it self shut so he grabbed a pair of pliers and wrenched it open, i guess the bottle didnt like that much because it burst, glue went all over the place including his face gluing his eyes shut, he also shut his eyes so hard that the eye lashes went in torward his eyes.

needless to say he went to the drs office, he had to have his eyes bandaged for a bit, but in the end after he healed he was ok.

lesson learned, never use pliers to open super glue

  20. utaduta says:

i still have the snoopy juice thingie. i loved my sno cone machine. the comerical brings me back.

  21. D.R. says:

I had one. Those were incredible. I used it all the time. Heck, I want another one. :)

  22. Allison says:

Whenever we’d play, the Snoopy juice bottle always went missing.
You’d find my brother under the table sucking on that thing like a baby bottle. Gross, Ass!

  23. Jennifer says:

My mom still has my Snoopy snow cone maker, and my kids have played with it!! This was one of my most favorite things as a kid. I live in Norteast Texas and pretty much the only way we get snow is to make it!!

  24. MommaKitty says:

    dont they still make these?

  25. Sally says:

    Childhood!!!
    Do I miss it!
All those wonderfull hours spent just playing…No worries in the world!
Those were the times and those were the toys!
    But they´re coming back!
    They´re timeless really!

  26. Chris says:

I just scared my hubby by singing the song with the commercial… muahahahah…

  27. Al says:

I still have mine at my Mom’s house! Whenever she says she’s going to do some spring cleaning I always tell her, “Whatever you do, DO NOT throw out the Snoopy Snow Cone Maker!!!”

  28. Molly says:

My grandparents got me one from a yard sale.

It never occurred to me at the time, but now I’m really glad I didn’t get secondhand herpes along with it.

I could never grind the ice very well, but it was still terribly cool to have. I’m tempted to get myself a new one. Or possibly the My Little Pony version.

  29. I Owned One says:

I totally had one, I just used it last christmas too! Still in great shape.
Sold it for 50 bucks about six months ago! Seriously.

  30. Mindy says:

Lol I had one freaking awesome! Gave my arm a good work out too :P Loved it!

  31. Thackie says:

I had one of these, it was impossible to get an ice cube to shave down. We used to make kool-aid cubes because the sugar made it weaker and easier to grind.

    Awesome.

  32. Lilac says:

Haha. I used to have one of these!

  33. Faith says:

Gah! I thought I was the only one who had one of these! I got it for Christmas when I was probably about 7 or so. Used it fairly frequently, too. Good times.

  34. linze3425 says:

i loved this even though i live in buffalo and snow is constant! It has a wonderful shaved flavor and i never liked other snow cones because all it made was crushed ice….nothing like real snow. i used to eat the ice plain because i love to eat snow. my parents let me eat it but this was a good and productive alternative to grabbing a bowl from the backyard (and less hillybillylike)

  35. linze3425 says:

oh and a new memory. we threw mine out after we ground the grinder down to something that could use to be buffed a shoe, so we threw it out. i saw one on sale at a garage sale 2 years ago and bought it for a dollar, spent 10 minutes grinding, and then threw a snowball in the house at my cousin in the middle of summer. was so worth that dollar and the biceps it created for me!!!!!!

  36. dingo says:

I wanted one of these SO BADLY.

  37. RavPadfoot says:

I wanted one desperately and got it for Christmas. My best friend was soooo jealous. The only problem is that once I got it, my parents wouldn’t let me make snow cones because the crank was so impossible. My dad grabbed the cuisenart and chopped up some ice. It just wasn’t the same!

  38. ernie says:

Had It, loved it, used it once or twice lol

  39. Beth says:

    still have it somewhere

  40. Great Post!Actually,Our snow and ice management team has decades of experience in managing Kansas City’s unique weather patterns and storm systems. We work 24/7 to Snow Removal Kansas City remove ice and snow from your property and we do not stop until the work is done.

  41. llc says:

    what a gimmicky thing!

  42. ginlyn says:

I had one of these and it didn’t work! We used regular ice cubes at first and it didn’t work plus made too much noise. The “syrup” (a packet of Flav-or-aid) was so nasty and gross and clogged the dispenser. So my brother and I used it to crush up popsicles! much better. I think my parents sold it at a yard sale.
