Friday Fail:Tight Rolled Jeans

Submitted by J Schiller
This look totally pilots the Fashion Failboat, not unlike
but I’ll admit that for a brief period in the late 80’s, I tight rolled my jeans (hangs head in shame). Hey, it was the 80’s! I think I’ll use that as an answer for every annoying/embarrassing question my little nephews ask me from now on. Them, with my yearbook: “Why do you look homeless in this picture?” Me: “Hey, it was the 80’s!” OK, lame excuse, and lamer fashion choice.
Does the FAIL of this outfit stop some celebrities from trying valiantly to resurrect it? Nooooo.
I’m looking at you:

Oy vey. Tight rolled jeans with sandal heels, no less. SANDAL HEELS. I can’t decide which is worse. Help me out in the poll:

The only thing sadder than Katie’s tight-rolled pants is the fact that she still insists on wearing shoes that are horribly bad for her feet, despite the fact that she has a condition called ‘Hammer Toes.’ http://bp1.blogger.com/_YG947iTujdc/RkEYX7K_H6I/AAAAAAAAAIs/FTNOcMlz80o/s1600-h/hammer_toes.jpg
duh katie! the best way to rock your tight rolled jeans is with two scrunch socks of different colors and some awesome LA gears or rebok work out shoes in hot pink. duh!!???
Huh? Are you following me? It seems I wore that crap every day in the 80’s!
I rocked mine with some black and yellow Reebok’s. With a Guess? t-shirt and a balloon barrette in my hair. Awww yeah.
i had to chose rolled up jeans in the poll because no one put belief in scientology as a viable option
It has to be the jeans. The shoes might, under some circumstances and outfits, work. The jeans, in addition to being tight rolled, are about three sizes too big for her. If she replaced that bigass belt with an old clothesline, it would almost be appropriate for the look.
is she wearing Tom’s pants? And should those heels be screaming, “THIS IS SPARTAAAAAA….’s fashion show!”
I have a stupid question. With the Friday Fails, do we vote thumbs up if we agree it’s a fail? Or do we vote thumbs down because we think it’s a fail?
I was wondering the same thing.
It seems most people vote thumbs down because they think it’s a fail.
Re: “Hey, it was the 80’s!”
I’m ashamed to admit that I now use the same line to excuse my past as my father did 20 years ago “It was the olden days!”
tight rolled jeans = WIN maybe not EPIC WIN but WIN nonetheless
im gonna tight roll my jeans right now
Oh good lord.
Can we pick “Tight-rolled jeans that are way too large, over strange and terrible shoes”?
Because seriously, those jeans are hanging off of her.
Yeah, her tight-rolled jeans are bad enough, but they’re hella-baggy, too!
Oprah called, she wants her pants back! (Oh yeah, 80’s burn, for the win!)
Katie Holmes looks great in just about anything.
totally. I hadn’t seen tight rolled jeans and thought “that looks good” since about 1989. These rock, as do the sandals. Her feet could use some help, but the sandals are GORGEOUS!
As for the fact that the jeans are so large…how, otherwise, do you all think she’s going to get jeans long enough to roll up? I never got to roll my jeans in the 80’s because I’m about her height, a bit taller, and women’s jeans used to be at most 30″ inseam. Now places at least offer slightly longer like 32-34, but for that amount of rolling…she’d have to buy men’s jeans.
uh….I don’t get it. What’s wrong with rolled-up jean cuffs? I do that all the time? Not as a fashion statement, but to keep me from constantly stepping on the bottom. This is a bad thing?
I know! I do the same thing, just not that tight… only one roll. Damn my 29″ inseam! Well, it doesn’t look too bad with my red suede Converse Kiros in any case.
Nothing’s wrong with rolling up your jeans. I do it all the time for that purpose. But she’s doing it for fashion. Plus, look how tight they are on her ankles an not so on her legs! Eeew!
For some reason I did this 2 times last week with my pants (for fashion.) Didn’t know she or other’s were doing it. Didn’t know other’s hated it. Oh well.
I wish there was a way to edit my own post… in addition… I meant to say I didn’t notice the rolling up of this particular shape of pant. While I’m at it, fashion changes, evolves, returns. Right now, I’m wearing the bootcut/bellbottom type pants I stopped wearing a few years ago in exchange for straight leg. I hated that style, but now I don’t mind. Well, to comment on her choice of sandles with the pants, I don’t particularly like it, but she does, so, oh well.
The heels are gladiator style and are probably strapped around her ankles as well. Some women want to wear heels and will do absolutely anything to but this is not practical for her casualness. Those boy jeans still look hot on her even with the roll. She’s just a cute boy girl in general.
Enh, I thumbs-upped these. Sure it was goofy, but it was awesome 80s goofy. And I recall it being called Pegging.
I love the wiki entry saying “the use of a safety pin was key to a good roll”–clearly written by a feeb. At my school you’d get laughed off the quad if you were caught resorting to safety pins to cheat. You had to peg by hand, you never used props to peg your pants.
I had to roll my jean legs, at least in the winter. Where I lived, it snowed a lot, and if you didn’t roll the cuffs in the winter, the bottoms of your pant legs would fill up with snow and freeze.
Come on! With her money, do you REALLY think she cares what she looks like??!!!
I tight rolled my jeans over my Chuck Taylor All-Stars.
We called it “French Cuffing” or “French Rolling” our jeans…who knows why! I went to a Catholic school, and we were not allowed to French Cuff our uniform pants. Ah, the good old days.
Those sandals are absolutely gorgeous, despite the fact they don’t match the rest of the outfit
You girls are such dicks!
I can’t believe you made an entire article just to complain about rolled jeans.
FAIL
The worst part about that picture is that she looks like she has a bulge
Yucch. People around here (Indiana) who wore jeans like that — always with a dirty, smelly white t-shirt with Marlboros in the sleeve — were a bunch of halfwit punks I grew up about 20 miles from Fairmount, which is where James Dean lived, and a lot of these folks thought they were just like him if they dressed that way.
I had to, I was short and wore hand-me-downs from my brother. But, hey, it was the 90’s so I didn’t look that out of place.
ha ha ha a video game character does that… a-freaking-mazing!!! lol
now theyre called ‘pegged’ when you do that and its fashionable, especially w/ skinny jeans
i thought that this trend was cool.
