Ah, I loved those. “Boobies.” hehehe
Every time I need to spell “bureau,” I can still hear the angry voice of Speak & Spell yelling, “That is incorrect, the correct spelling of bureau is, B-U-R-E-A-U!!” Oh, that was a tough word to memorize…
I could never tell if it was saying burrow or bureau.
I loved the bloop noises. That to me was even better than getting a word right.
Oh wow…..
I had actually forgotten about the speak & spell…..
Ahhh the good old days!
OMG that poll is unbelievable! lolol
Does it still sound like Stephan Hawking?
Some Speak n’ Spell memories:
*SPELL RELIEF*
R… O… L… A… I… D… S…
*THAT IS INCORRECT*
*SPELL RELIEF*
Then there was always the good old
I… C… U… P… ::giggle::
OMG I absolutely loved my Speak and Spell. And I totally did all the inappropriate stuff with mine. I’d tell my mom “F U” every now and again. I do think it started my obsession with correct spelling, though, since I try to correct every spelling error I see.
i loved mine. i am a horrible speller too. remember in one of the Texas chain saw movies leather face types in FOOD for human, and it kept saying _ incorrect” haha so funny!
If you used the Secret Code function, the word fnnyrub converts to a$$h*le.
wow…I had forgotten about these. hehe…the old days LOL
For some real fun, put in “7734″ on your calculator and turn it upside down. That used to amuse us…
Don’t forget “318008″ on the inverted calculator.
There’s a girl and she’s 13. She’s a size 84 but wants to be a 45. She goes to a doctor and the doctor says “0 take thes 2 ‘times’ a day” but instead she took 4 and ended up…
(type in138402X4 then turn it upside down!)
I never had this, but I adored my Speak & Math. You can spell lots of good things with that, too.
I had the Speak & Math too! I still suck at math though. Spent too much time spelling things on it I suppose.
92% of respondents said they did in fact use the Speak and Spell in a way it was not designed for. The other 8% indicated they were liars, but terrible at it.
I never had one of these, I was (ahem) to old by the time it came out. I remember thinking one might have helped my spelling.
I had one of these as well as a speak and math. I can hear the noises now: *bad music* SOLVE IT, LEVEL ONE.
With the Speak and Spell it was “SPELL DISSECT. THAT IS CORRECT. DISSECT THE FROG.” *ribbit*
Speak and spell like the DEVIL
you saw that on dane cook
Who DIDN’T use Speak and Spell in a wrong way?
Besides the 8% liars… uh.
R – U – A – P – P?
U – R – A – P – P!
Y – R – U – A – P – P?
U – P – P!
OMG! I loved my speak and spell…and reading that thing about the bureau (is that how u spell it? im still not sure lol), totally freaked me out ’cause as i read it, i could hear the exact voice of the damn thing in my head! I think I still have it stashed somewhere over my parents house. Now I gotta go find it!
What? No mention yet of the role it played in E.T. the movie?
WTF!!!! I used to have one of those!!!!
It was my sister’s and then it became mine. It had a very hard keyboard. I didn’t used it for bad words because I was 4, lol, and I didn’t past the first level.
But it helped me to learn English, since it’s my 2nd language.
I wonder if it still on my parent’s house???
Never heard of one…But…I wan’t one..
I had one of these, but mine had actual buttons and not the little pad things like this one. I had a hard time understanding some of the words, too.
ooh I miss my speak & spell :’(
Limp Bizkit used the speak & spell voice in their song ‘Behind Blue Eyes’
My dad was working for TI when they were building those things LOL!
Those things were great. We had a math version like this but with Cookie Monster, played the heck out of that thing.
my friend would write “i want your sex” and it would reply “sorry, can’t help” and we would rotfl, really. literally. rolling on the floor laughing is a very 11 year old girl thing to do.
I still remember that in the Code function, ALDV translates to F*CK. In fact, that’s where I learned the word; I was in grade 1, and a grade 3 showed it to me.
i liked this toy, but it didn’t teach me much.
